Self-Evaluation
I have always been interested in starting a business, but I never had a great idea or any real incentive to create one. So, when this project rolled around, I thought it would be a perfect time to try out entrepreneurship. I have been taking Graphic Design I and II this past year, which is what inspired me to partner with Max, so I would not have to tackle the endeavor of creating a business all by myself.
We successfully created our website, designs, and physical products. Along with these, I created an instagram page that showcased our products to our target audience. The strongest thing about my project would have to be the final products, which are for sale as of now. They are appealing to both genders, a variety of ages, and people who enjoy different sports. In creating the company, I ran into a few obstacles. First, after creating my advertisement, I did not reach out to the magazine companies; such as Bomb Snow, Outdoor Bozeman, and the Bozeman Chronicle; soon enough to have them be published in the latest issue. Another thing I could have improved would have been to applied for a grant from the Bozeman Youth Initiative. This money would have acted as start-up capital to pay for our initial products. This would have made my project far more successful, as we would be able to commercially sell our products, and use our website as an actual website, instead of just a mock website for the purpose of this project.
My research helped me find Bear Trap Design Co.’s target audience, using the market segmentation system. After consulting with my father, Doug, I was able to specifically decide which people around Bozeman to target. I had to do additional research to find the manufacturer Max and I were going to use to order our products. We needed to find the most cost effective site, with the best quality. Ooshirts is who we ended up purchasing from.
The most challenging part was creating the website with Max, as we had both never built a website before. Other than this, the project rolled out pretty easily. I gained entrepreneurship skills and website building skills. I needed to communicate with Ben Bennett, the owner of Massive Studios who i interviewed. Also I had to learn to communicate with my teacher as to let her know how I was doing with the project.
I would suggest to students to choose a topic that you are interested and invested in. If not, you will quickly lose motivation and procrastinate until the day before your presentation.
